VP Engineering
Airbotics Talent have been retained by a leading drone logistics (last meter) provider to hire a VP of Engineering, based out of their headquarters in California. This role will sit over the entire Engineering (Hardware & Software), R&D, Test and Development business and will ultimately define the product roadmap, technology and direction of product development and innovation.
This role can be worked on a hybrid basis but requires a minimum of one day a week in their Californian office.
The Role
As VP Engineering, this role will sit at executive level and report directly in to the Founder and CEO. Sitting over a diverse technical team and, in collaboration with the operations and commercial teams, will have a major role to play in the direction of both existing and future product lines.
Key Responsibilities:
• Develop and drive the technical vision and strategy for the organization, ensuring alignment with the company's business goals. Provide strong leadership and guidance to the engineering team.
• Product Development and Innovation: Lead the design, development, and continuous improvement of drone products, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to ensure product excellence and compliance with FAA regulations and other industry-specific standards.
• Compliance and Certification: Oversee adherence to FAA regulations and other relevant industry standards, guiding the team in obtaining necessary certifications and approvals for drone products.
• Resource Management: Effectively manage engineering resources, including talent acquisition, team development, and resource allocation to meet project timelines and quality standards.
• Research and Development: Drive research initiatives to stay at the forefront of technology advancements, identifying opportunities for innovation and differentiation in the market.
• Quality Assurance: Establish and maintain rigorous quality control processes and standards, ensuring the delivery of safe and reliable drone products.
• Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate closely with operations and commercial teams to align engineering efforts with manufacturing capabilities, market demand, and product roadmaps.
• Budget and Cost Management: Develop and manage engineering budgets, optimizing resource allocation and cost-efficiency while delivering high-quality drone solutions
The Person
The ideal candidate will have:
• Experience of developing drone or UAV solutions is essential. Unfortunately candidates without this experience cannot be considered for this role
• A minimum of 5 year's experience at either CTO, VP Engineering or Senior Director level technical roles
• Experienced taking products from concept (blank sheet of paper) to volume production
• A inspirational business leader, capable of pulling together diverse technical teams with a shared vision and goals
• A Degree in Aviation, Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering or similar technical field is strongly preferred
Salary & Benefits
• $2750,000-$300,000 basic
