Airbotics Talent are exclusively working in partnership with a multi-company UAV scaleup to hire a US based Group CTO. This unique role will lead full technology strategy, owning the AI-first product roadmap, the scaling of their engineering capabilities, and due diligence for future M&A activity across the group.

Our client are looking for industry best-in-class candidates and only those with direct experience in developing and launching UAV / UAS products to market can be considered for this position.

Candidates can be based anywhere in the US.

The Role
‍

As Group CTO, this role will report directly in to the Founders and Group CEO and sit over a diverse direct technical team and broader multi-company functions.

Key Responsibilities:

• Technology Leadership & Architecture – Define and oversee scalable, secure, and resilient systems architecture across hardware, software, and cloud infrastructure to support diverse mission-critical applications.
• Cybersecurity & Compliance – Ensure security of embedded systems, data, and networks while meeting international regulatory, safety, and airworthiness standards.
• AI & Autonomy – Drive integration of AI/ML into core platforms to enhance autonomy, situational awareness, predictive analytics, and continuous model improvement.
• Hardware & Systems Integration – Lead R&D in propulsion, payloads, sensors, and modular designs, ensuring seamless hardware–software integration and manufacturability.
• Product Reliability & Testing – Establish robust QA frameworks, simulation environments, and risk-based testing protocols to deliver high levels of performance and safety.
• Strategic Growth & Partnerships – Oversee technical due diligence for acquisitions, integrate acquired technologies, and develop partnerships that expand ecosystem reach.
• Team Building & Culture – Recruit, inspire, and scale a world-class engineering organization, fostering innovation, collaboration, and execution excellence.
• Executive & Market Influence – Translate business strategy into a technology roadmap, own key R&D and performance metrics, and represent the company with investors, regulators, and industry bodies.

The Person
‍

The ideal candidate will have:

• Experience of developing drone or UAV solutions, ideally taking a business from startup through scaleup / to critical mass
• A minimum of 5 year's experience at either CTO or VP Engineering. Candidates that are technology focused and now sit in a CEO capacity but a driver to get back closer to the technology are also welcome
• Experienced taking products from concept (blank sheet of paper) to volume production
• A inspirational business leader, capable of pulling together diverse technical teams with a shared vision and goals
• Previous M&A or experience assessing customer / partner technology is highly desired but not essential
• A Masters or Degree in Aviation, Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering or similar technical field is strongly preferred
